The Mountain King’s New Year

Well we’ve ushered in 2015 and the Mountain King is prepared for finishing.  Insulation by Energy Smart Insulations systems was installed this past month.  Both open cell and closed cell were used to compliment the thermal properties of the Eastern White Pine logs.

The use of spray foam insulation is by far superior to the traditional fiberglass insulation and is a perfect compliment to the thermal qualities of the logs

Despite the cold weather, outdoor work continues with rough gas and water plumbing completed, 1000 gallon propane tank installed, our well and pump installation operational with our septic design closely behind.

1000 gallon propane tank is buried underground for longevity, maintenance, and aesthetics. Also by purchasing the tank, there is no contract for the fuel and the owner can shop around for the best price.

Inside we now have tongue and groove  wall installation , kitchen and  bath cabinetry completed with countertop templating and glass shower enclosure design surveys this week.

Eight inch North Eastern White Pine tongue and grove covers the interior walls of the log home. No wall board or sheetrock was used int he interior coverings of this cabin.
The kitchen takes shape with wall and base cabinets installed. Cabinets are 100% plywood construction, dovetail joinery, oak panels matching the floor, countertop and backsplash. Stainless kitchen appliances from Frigidaire’s Gallery collection compliment the look. Hammered copper apron sink with built in counter depth oven and range along with a hammered copper prep sink complete the look. More to follow.

Fit and finished to perfection. roll out draws, soft glide retraction, cutlery dividers, and waste basket storage are some of the kitchens cabinetry features.

The radiant heat system is  the most comfortable, highest efficiency heat one can install into new homes today.  10 different zones offer the ultimate in control to heat the Mountain King.  Below is some of the handiwork of Pete Tevendale from Windward Solar LLC.

Although intricate installation is the the key . These radiant systems are quite simple;operating solely on the tankless hot water heater as the heart of the heat. Both domestic hot water and the space heating is provided by the 140K BTU tankless wonder.

Shielded foil is installed over the pex tubing carrying the heated fluid to direct the radiant heat into the floor above. All 3 levels of the Mountain King are outfitted with under floor radiant heat, including the basement slab and garage floors.

Air Conditioning and backup heat is provided by Monk HVAC Systems Inc.  We used split duct heating and air conditioning  for greater  efficiency. The Trane products provided a 13 SEER rating and work well with the in floor radiant heat system. Just another plus on the green technology used in the construction of the Mountain King.

It may be snowing but we have A/C!

Walkout daylight basement is ready for the pouring hopefully this week, weather permitting.

Finishing features such as fireplace install and stone work with wide plank hardwood flooring are next on the schedule.
